Dr. Scanlan graduated cum laude in zoology from the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio with a minor in chemistry. He received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, graduating in the top third of his class and earning honors in psychiatry. Dr. Scanlan completed his internship in internal medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa and also completed six additional months training in anesthesiology and critical care medicine, giving him experience in caring for and managing medically challenging patients. His residency training in psychiatry was completed at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, which is renowned for having the busiest psychiatric emergency room in the United States. His other work experience includes serving as an attending physician at one of the largest inpatient detox and rehab facilities in the United States, where he worked with patients from their first day of detox up through their first year in recovery.He is active in the American Board Of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
