2 Doctors Sent To Prison in Pill Mill Case

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.

Two doctors have been sentenced to prison time for money laundering in one of the largest South Florida cases involving “pill mill” clinics that illegally dispensed vast amounts of prescription painkillers.

Dr. Cynthia Cadet was sentenced last week to more than six years in prison and Dr. Joseph Castronuovo got a year and a half. They were also each fined $10,000.

The two doctors were among 32 people charged in connection with a string of pain clinics that authorities said were linked to the deaths of at least nine patients. A jury last year acquitted Cadet and Castronuovo of having roles in the deaths but convicted them of money laundering.

The clinic owners, brothers Christopher and Jeffrey George, are also doing prison time.
